I love it too! Started practicing about 8 months ago. My body has never looked this good and I love how centered and peaceful I feel after

Re: home from yoga
I used to practice, often. I'd love to get back into it because not only does it do wonders for my physique but I agree, I feel so centered and at peace when I'm finished.
I just might have to look into going again...hmmmm

Re: home from yoga
I hear so many great things about it but I'm too scared to try it. How hard is it for someone like me who isn't very active and do they have classes specifically designed for beginners?

the beauty of yoga is that it's really for everyone. it's the type of thing where you just do what you can. if you can't do a specific posture just modify it to what you can do.
i recommend it to everyone.

Oh my god I hated yoga! I didn't feel centered--I felt self-conscious, awkward, & out of place.

oh no! That's not relaxing!! I can see someone feeling that way when doing it for the very first time (just like taking a dance class for the first time, I know i've felt that way!). Once you get a feel for the postures it's so great. It does take a lot of body self awareness, and i've seen people struggle with it but if the teacher is a good teacher they come to you and assist you.
Sorry it wasn't a good experience

I think you nailed it in saying "If the teacher is a good teacher" That's key.
If you have a good instructor you won't feel so badly because they will come and help you without making you feel self-conscious or awkward.
I'd suggest giving it a go one more time, maybe at a different place with a different instructor, you may have a better experience.
Also, look into possibly finding a "beginner" class so you don't feel like you're the only one new to it.

It was a beginner class, at an adult ed program, and I went every week except once for the whole fall session (like 10 weeks or something) The teacher did try & help, but that just made me feel worse. I am just not good at school. It doesn't matter what the class is.

Oh those classes are terrible bc usually they're WAY over crowded and as good as a teacher may be they just can't really help everyone they way they should.
I did adult ed once and it was OK but I've done some DVD yoga workouts that were better.
I would check out some local joints and see if you can find a beginner class there.

Unfortunately, I can't help recommend a place, normally I suggest looking for a local studio or possibly adult ed...
Gas passing is totally common and yes it takes all my strength not to giggle like a little school girl
Gas is funny, I can't help but laugh!!!

Don't let me scare you! I am clearly a nutcase. I don't do well in classes. Especially small ones where I can be noticed & get 1 on 1 attention from the teacher.
Most people cosider that a good thing--it is my worst nightmare.
I don't respond well to instruction or correction.

Bwahahahahaaaa...
So then clearly my advice of finding a small class with a good teacher who will give you one on one attention was the worst thing I could have said!! That's awesome.
Sorry!

I like to hear opinions about yoga. At least you gave it a college try!
I personally hate fishing and only tried it twice.

Re: home from yoga
I take yoga too...just got home from a class.
I love it. I have been taking a hot vinaysa class and try to take 2-3 class a week. I totally agree...it all depends on the teacher.
