How much for a biopsy?

Hi I found a lump on my dog Casey's side. I'm a little worried about it and cannot really afford an expensive vet visit.

I was wondering if anyone had a biopsy done on their dog, and if so do you know ball park how much it was an where did you get it done?

I am actually taking my dog to the vet tonight because I found two lumps on him.

I'll let you know what they tell me after my appointment.

GEEZ, I would think I would remember exactly-my dog has had quite a few-I was going to give a ballpark but I do not want o mislead you. Ii do have a suggestion though. The last one my dog had..(lump) was removed last weds. He was going for a biopsy and thew vert realized he really had to dig for it-in digging he realized it was a fatty tumor and not hard so no reason for a biopsy.
The doctor decided to not call me and make a call on removing it instead of sedating him again to remove it.
Give your doc the go-ahead or tell him if it is removable right then and there to do it so the dog is not knocked out 2x? kwim?

I will say--the sedative, the general anesthesia, the operation plus office visit was $350.00.

I'm hoping it's benign, whatever it is.

We found a lump on Ginger's elbow in May and I found out through the vet and internet searches that there may be ways they can narrow it down before testing.

With Ginger's age (3 to 4 years old), the location of it, and the look of it, they assumed a Histiocytoma which is a benign tumor that usually dries up and falls off itself. We could have taken the wait-and-see approach but we opted for the test since we didn't know her history and wanted to be sure.

It was called a fine needle aspiration and they didn't have to sedate her for it. The put a needle inside it and extracted some tissue, and the vet said that sometimes it's not reliable depending on how much of the dog's blood gets in the sample.

For us, it was a good sample and the test came back that it was definitely a Histiocytoma. That was May, and it's been gone since last month.

I just looked up my credit card charge and it was $214.31. That would include the office visit fee and the test, and tax. So it really wasn't that expensive.

I don't know if that kind of test is what he needs, but they'll need to at least see him to give you the options. I would ask, if you don't have the test done in that visit, if they will charge you for another office visit when you come back. And if they have any kind of financing available for payments. Doesn't hurt to ask, right?

Thanks, we called Casey's vet and they gave us a ball park around $300 with vet visit... but it depends on what type of lump it is. So far what we know iis its a hard lump under the skin, i dont think they will have to dig for it because it sticks out.

We're hopefully going this weekend and I hope its benign.

The bump on Morgan turned out to be a cyst. The vet aspirated it and gave me a topical ointment. All together the visit cost $114 with $65 of that being the office visit cost.
