My dog is hobbling around and I don't know what to do...
Cooper is a 6yo Boston Terrier and just yesterday he started limping and favoring his right hind leg.... he's able to make it up the stairs and he's still running around and standing on his hind legs when he's trying to see/reach something. DH and I have been squeezing, pressing, moving, feeling his leg to see if it evokes a cry or anything, but he doesn't react and nothing feels different or off to us. I think he jumped off the bed and maybe tweaked his leg somehow when he landed.
I'd take him to the vet, but I'm having a c-section in 2 days (this dog has perfect timing) so it's not really possible right now.
Is it possible that this is something that will go away on it's own or do you think it's something we should be concerned about even though it doesn't seem to be bothering him?
Any input/advice would be awesome. TIA!

can someone else take him.... sounds like what happened to Jessie a few years ago.... all she needed was an anti-inflammatory... but it could be more serious... either way he needs to see the vet... maybe they can hold him for a few days till youre home???

I would have someone else take him, but I'm just not comfortable with that (he's had so many health issues in the past that DH and I are so on top of everything that goes on with him and would not be comfortable having someone else take him). I guess next week once I'm out of the hosp I'll have DH take him in. I hope to GOD all he would need in an anti-inflamatory

I would take him to the vet. this happened to my dog. She was favoring her leg but it didn't hurt her or anything. She was acting fine otherwise. We took her to the vet and she had a fever. turned out he had Lymes disease from a tick she got bit by a year before.

Yikes!!! I hope he's OK now. Cooper is really an "inside" dog so I doubt this is the cause, although with him, stranger things have happened.
DH will take him to the vet once I'm home from the hospital. Hopefully it's something small and easily fixable.

i think your fine to wait until your home from the hospital... they say that if a dog is limping or favoring one side, but is still able to run, jump and isnt wimpering in pain when you touch the area, it is most likely something that will go away on its own
hershey has started limping before & as long as he is still acting normal and not crying when we try to touch the area, we wait to see if it will heal on its own

Re: My dog is hobbling around and I don't know what to do...
This happened to my male dog. If he jumps too high, he must sprain something and limps for a few days/weeks. I have taken him for xrays and they never see anything. Try to limit his jumping.
How exciting, baby is coming!!
ETA- I did have my vet check for Lyme disease also and he was negative!! I thought that too when there was no real explanation for the limping.

I would definitely check it out. My black lab has sprained her leg a few times and recently completely tore her ACL and needed surgery. I guess it's the most common injury in dogs.

Re: My dog is hobbling around and I don't know what to do...
Pretty much the exact same thing happened to my dog a few weeks ago. She was favoring one hind leg but didn't show any other signs of being in pain. We took her to the vet after 24 hrs of her limping. Since the xrays would have been very expensive, and the vet didn't think the foot was broken, he put her on pain meds and told us to keep her from running around for a week and then bring her back if she was still limping. But after a couple days she went back to using the foot and seemed completely fine, so we stopped giving her the pain meds and she's been fine since. So we were lucky. Hopefully your dog has a similar problem and will be fine. But if it doesn't get better in a day or so, you should probably try to get someone to take him to the vet just to be safe. Our vet was initially concerned that our dog might have torn a tendon in her knee, which would have required surgery. Good luck!
