What Changed Your Mind?
What changed your mind from either:
Wanting to have children and then deciding NOT to have them-
OR the opposite not wanting to have children and then deciding TO have them.

Re: What Changed Your Mind?
I never felt as though I had to have kids when I got married and DH has lots of "toys" that he would have to give up if we ever decided to have kids, so from the beginning we were on the same page that we wouldn't have kids.
If DH decides to give up his "toys" and wants to have kids then we will have to see what happens

Re: What Changed Your Mind?
I was always team NO kids and DH seemed to be on that band wagon too. Recently (8 years into our relationship) we have both changed our mind!
I thought we would never be having children, now I am not sure. I think that we will some day in the future. I am not sure when. I am still a little shocked that we are changing our minds and think we are ready for trying in 2012!

This.......
But seriously....DH is just not a kid person and I work with kids and I like them for about 45 minutes and then its like "okay I'm done go home I have things to do and $ to spend on myself. toodles." Even some of my older students like the 14 to 18 yr olds say "I could never picture you w/ a kid, you're too into yourself" LOVE IT!

Re: What Changed Your Mind?
I never really was a "kid" person...never babysat or did anything even slightly maternal...i had more Matchbox cars than dolls...i was always and still am very much a tomboy when it comes to the things i enjoy.
When i was younger (20's) I liked the idea of getting married and raising kids & being a SAHM...then all my friends got married and had kids and I saw the reality of it all...just wasn't willing to give up my freedom and ability to travel...or lay on the couch all day on a day off if i want..i know i don't have the patience either...but i admire people who have kids for all the right reasons just as much...its a hard job...i am just not willing

Re: What Changed Your Mind?
I personally never wanted kids...DH on the other hand did want kids until he was introduced to my family. I have some much younger cousins that he got to experience first hand what children were really like and I think it made him change his mind pretty fast.
He's also realized that he would rather sleep in late and loves the freedom to pick up and go when he wants to. His sister just had her 2nd child and now he sees what she goes through and the money they spend just on things they need for the kids and I think its officially killed any desire he may have had.

Re: What Changed Your Mind?
I flip flop back and forth... when i was younger, i couldnt wait to have kids... then i became a full time nanny and i think it changed me a bit to the side of not wanting kids... Not that the child i care for is bad, its honestly just alot of work... they crave your attention 24/7 and im really not ready for all that...

Re: What Changed Your Mind?
I was never a fan of kids in general--I never got along with them, never knew how to act around them, etc. I will admit, its gotten better as I've grown up.
However now that my parents are getting older and need help with things, I wonder who would do this for them if I wasn't around? Their siblings and nieces/nephews all live out of state. I have a great aunt who was basically shoved in a nursing home b/c she had no family to care for her.
I know that sounds totally selfish--but part of me feels like its part of the cycle of life...you have a family, take care of them, and one day they take care of you...

I was always team NO too. After dating my now DH for about a year and discussing our age, we decided we would risk things once or twice to see what happened. I was 38 and told him it may never happen so if you absolutely have to have kids, it might not be with me! I never tried to get pregnant before - in fact I doubled up in efforts NOT to be pregnant!!! I didnt know if it would happen.....
We risked it once on vacation. <------- see what happened! He's 3 now!
Good Luck! Have fun trying!!!!

Re: What Changed Your Mind?
Honestly? My DH.
Seeing him with children melts my black heart.
He LOVES kids and he is just one of those people who is destined to be a father. We joke that he is the baby/kid whisperer, because no matter who it is, children flock to him.
I never thought much about having kids until I saw what an amazing father he would become.
Now I think that if it happens, it wouldn't be so bad.

Re: What Changed Your Mind?
I watched my friends daughter for 2 days and after that I knew having kids wasn't something I wanted to do anymore. She behaved herself and it was nice to help out my friend, but it was a lot of work. Now I know that I couldn't handle giving up my freedom to take care of a child. I have enough responsibility as it is.

Re: What Changed Your Mind?
I still want to have kids... just not yet! I'm only 24 so I want to be able to enjoy myself for a few more years, enjoy being a newlywed, buy a house, travel, finish school, and then have the babies.

Re: What Changed Your Mind?
I really want kids - or a kid! lol
But I just know that now is not the right time. DH and I just got married and started living together. I would like to just enjoy it being the two of us for a while.
Plus we're both trying to get rid of a little debt right now, save, and just be able to spoil ourselves for a bit. We're on a 2 yr game plan, so we'll see what happens.

Re: What Changed Your Mind?
My health, this past June I had cancer surgery. My age also has a lot to do with my decision of not having children, I don't think it would be fair to bring children into this world if I'm not healthy enough to raise them.

Re: What Changed Your Mind?
For me it's the opposite. In my 20's I did not want children. Now in my mid thirties I must say I am starting to get that feeling. I am still on the fence but, we'll see how things go this year.

Re: What Changed Your Mind?
We still want to have kids...really bad. Just not right now. DH and I are still selfish and we know this. We want to enjoy this time to ourselves. We want to buy a house and travel I still want to go on vacations with my girlfriends and DH still loves going away with the guys. I'm 24, I'm just not ready to give those things up yet. There will be a point when DH and I are ready for a child, just right now is not the time for us.
