i cried after dropping him off at freshman orientation
ds is 15, this will be his freshman year in high school. he is coming out of his shell!!!
he has joined the cross country track team!! woo hoo!
today was freshman orientation. as i'm dropping him off, with a million other parents, i notice a crowd of kids all dressed the same. they are standing along both sides of the walkway into the auditorium. it seems that they are a "welcoming commitee". they cheer as the kids go by and even high five them.
i see the look on my boy's face and i think that this anti-social child is capable of taking the long way in, just to avoid this crowd. but...
instead...
he fist pumps them as he's about 15 feet away. the kids start cheering him on. my anti-social child jogs through the welcoming commitee, high-fiving and low-fiving them... the way pro players do at the beginning of a game, when their number is called.
he was milking the experience! i wished i would have had a video camera.
as i drove away, i was so happy for him, i cried... yeah, that ugly cry lol
my baby is growing up and coming out of his shell.
i think i'm going to cry again lol

How awesome! I'm so glad it was a nice experience. We cry if they are happy we cry if they are sad...I'm glad they were happy tears. I am not ready for that age (my oldest is going into 3rd grade) but there's a reason we get to grow with them too I guess, to prepare ourselves.
