My only suggestion is to have a strong drink waiting when you get home!

Re: huge classes in grade 6 this year..need ideas for behavior management
I actually did a few things that worked. I was in a really tough school and the kids did very well and loved these.I bought a roll of tickets from party city and gave tickets for good behavior, homework done, etc. If they collected 10 tickets (and they had to hand them in)...they could trade them for extra points on a test, quiz or a homework pass. I also gave them homework passes and extra points on a whim during the day to push for other kids to want them too.
I started telling them I would not give homework on Fridays and I would allow them to use the weekend for catch up work, study or projects IF the group they were in or the class did all their homework. I only allowed one day makeup for work.
I also did a survivor theme. Put them into groups and they were able to name their tribe. They would compete during the day when we did group work to see who did the best and a few minutes before dismissal I did trivia questions or each team would compete using the board to see who could answer a question I gave them the fastest (this mainly I used to practice math or for a ss test).
Lastly when they were really rough I would just keep writing (since we didn't have a smart board yet....they still had to copy notes, etc. So if I was writing a few things down...if they were starting to get nuts I kept writing...sometimes 10-15 vocab words or questions would turn into 25 or more. It didn't take long for them to catch on that the more I had to wait for them the more work they had to do at home. This was a big factor for them to quiet down quickly and take me serious.
HTH.
