WWYD: Bus vs Driving
If you lived very close to your DC's school and could drive them and get to work pretty much on time would you, or would you let them take the bus?
I am so torn

I would let them take the bus, pick-up is so crazy everytime I have been to the school.

Re: WWYD: Bus vs Driving
I am in that situation and chose to drive my DD to school, mostly becuase she is only in 1st grade and just seemed so young to take a bus.
Since I work f/t it works out as part of our morning routine. Drop off DD1 at school, then DD2 at daycare then to work.
Also she does not take a bus home, I pick her up from after school care. Maybe when she is older if she wants to take the bus we can switch to it.

Re: WWYD: Bus vs Driving
I am about a mile or so from the school, very easy to drop off and pick up... However, he takes the bus. Every day. I don't think I ever drove him, except one day when the bus never came. Right now I have to drive my DD to and from Pre-K since she doesn't get a bus, so it alleviates the driving back and forth twice since it's different times. Even next year, they both will take the bus. It gives me an extra 20 minutes at the end of the day too while the bus drives him home
Besides, the bus picks him up/drops him off at our house, I don't even have to get out of my jammies!

Re: WWYD: Bus vs Driving
I almost drive past the school on my way to work but DH wanted them to take the bus home since it would give him a few more minutes of sleep and didn't want to deal with the traffic of the school. We are the the last stop to pick up and the first to drop off but we figured it would be good for them. They did meet one boy on the bus that lives near us but is not in there class.
They have them sit in the front of the bus and an adult has to be there to pick up the K and 1st graders at the stop so I don't worry too much about there safety. I would send her on the bus now so that if there comes a time when you can't it won't be such a big deal.
Which elem are you at?

I agree with this. Besides, you pay for it in your taxes, might as well get your money's worth!

I would let them take the bus. Although I love the drop off, I do recognize it's part of the school socializing.
I drop my kids off because they're walkers.

Re: WWYD: Bus vs Driving
Bus. My son's school is less than a5 minute drive for my house and would actually be on the way to the drop off for my other son's preschool but I am still having him take the bus. My biggest reason is his school is only grades K-2 and then after that the school's aren't as close and he'll have to/it'll make more sense take the bus then since by then I'll have 2 in different schools and different directions. I figure now he'll get use to it and make the friends he'll most likely be commuting with for most of his school life. He was so nervous about the bus and wanted me to drive him the 1st few days but somehow I convinced him he had to and he did terrific.
