I'm not upset by it at all. My son's kindergarten class is designated an inclusion class. He has not one, but two full time teachers (neither one is specifically a special ed teacher), plus a full time aid. With twenty-two children in the class, the kids actually get that much more "teacher-time" than if he was in a non-inclusion class.

one if them is definitely a special ed teacher. Both teachers teach everyone so they don't just come out and say who is who because it doesn't matter. But one definitely is!

I'll speak for a friend of mine, who isn't on the board. Her main concern was the child in her son's class was out of control & she felt he was a huge disruption with both teachers focusing on him.

I told her it's not the inclusion that's the issue - it's the teachers. They need to handle it better or get additional help.

it could be, but a lot of times its out of their hands. I've had inappropriately placed kids before and I managed my best but it was hard for everyone. It is not easy to get an aide and sometimes you are just told to deal with it. It's not fair to anyone. That's why placement is so important.

Re: Would you be upset if...

Upset....NO.....

Would I prefer that my child not be placed in the inclusion class?...Yes.....

Without getting into the whole nitty gritty....

I have seen first hand how it can work....

AND...

How it doesnt work...

Unless the school was going to be forth coming, regarding the special education students and the teachers qualifications to adequately educate them, I wouldnt feel comfortable having my child in that class.

For those of you who might not know where Im coming from on this subject my eldest daughter has Mosaic Down Syndrome and was in an Inclusion setting through 3rd grade. Based upon my experience I am not as much of an advocate for inclusion as I once was. While it is a wonderful thing for some students...some students, like my daughter, would learn more and benefit more in a self contained classroom.

If anyone would like to FM me for particulars please feel free. I'd be more than happy to answer any questions regarding my experience...
