Is anyone here in fashion marketing or a similar field?
I recently started working at a place I love. Most people have bachelors in fashion marketing in my place. I have a bachelors in psychology and I'm working as an administrative assistant there. I'm thinking of going back for my Masters in marketing to hopefully be able to move up in this field. Just wanted to get some opinions on how difficult it is, how high of a demand there is for this field, and how much you like/dislike it.
TIA!

I honestly dont think you need a bachelors or any degree for that matter for fashion marketing.
I know you DO need to put in a lot of hours.
Experience is key!

a masters in marketing would be a waste
an associates or BA from FIT would carry alot more weight

Since I already have a Bachelors in psyc, would it be pointless to go back to get another bachelors in marketing?

I think my Bachelors in Marketing is a waste I certainly wouldn't recommend a Masters.
I would go for an MBA in Management or Information Systems--IMO they will get you a lot further.

This sounds like a very intresting career. Where would you find jobs in this field of work?

you can have mutliple degrees
but experince does count for alot more
my degree was very specialized and it did help me alot- my first job at macy's was like have a masters - that opened way more doors- but I got in at macy's b/c of FIT
I would give it some time- it's a very fast burn out industry

Re: Is anyone here in fashion marketing or a similar field?
i work in marketing in the entertainment industry. i believe that experience is most important above degrees. why don't you wait a bit before thinking about your next step? they might even offer to pay for you to go back if it's required? that's what i did and after 9 years they don't think a masters is needed...i do go to seminars for photoshop, indesign, etc.
good luck!

Currently, I'm working for a company that manufactures makeup. I actually stumbled upon it through a temp agency, but now I'm discovering there are a lot of other companies like it out there.

Just curious about this statement - what do you mean exactly by "quick burn out"?? It worries me a little because although I love it right now, I dont want to get into something that I won't be able to stick with long-term.

most people don't stick with it long term
it's high demmand, stressful, late hours
I lasted 6 years
I am a Realtor now and dispite weekly recuiting calls I am never going back to Corp Retail/product development
when I first started I had my "dream" job and I thought I was luckiest girl in the world - I beat out 10,000 other girls to get into the program at macy's
after 2 years I was stressed, sick of getting yelled at, sick of coming in early - 7am on mondays to do reports, sick of staying past 9pm for no thanks

Thank you for the explanation. I can see what you mean. I see the other girls there til late and they're always so stressed out. I can see how you could easily burn out. I guess for now its probably best to just see where it takes me and see if in a year I still like it. If I still love it a year from now and I'm moving up, I'll re-assess whether or not its worth getting my masters in business management or something.

I think that's a good idea

If you like marketing you could try marketing in different fields. Someone on here mentioned entertainment marketing. I am in financial services marketing.. the thing I love about my job is the super flexibility I have and you can really try to get in some of the best companies out there. FM me if you want to talk.
