ELAINE HALL, AUTHOR AND FOUNDER OF THE MIRACLE PROJECT THEATER PROGRAM FOR AUTISTIC CHILDREN, TO SPEAK AT MID-ISLAND Y JCC

Plainview, NY – When Elaine Hall learned she would be unable to bear a child, she and her husband decided to adopt one from overseas. In 1996, they traveled to an orphanage in Russia, where they adopted a nearly 2-year-old boy named Nial, whom they renamed Neal and brought home to Los Angeles. There, Hall worked as an on-set coach for child film actors. When Neal began to show significant development problems, his parents had him tested, and received a diagnosis of severe autism and mental retardation.

Hall, author of Now I See The Moon: A Mother, a Son, a Miracle (HarperStudio), will share her inspiring message of hope, triumph, and joy in raising a child on the autism spectrum, at a special community event on Thursday, October 21 at 7:30 p.m. at the Mid-Island Y Jewish Community Center, 45 Manetto Hill Road, Plainview. She will also sign copies of her book which will be available for purchase.

Elaine Hall has coached children on numerous TV shows and films, including Honey I Blew Up the Kid, The Flintstones and Akeelah and the Bee. Her brilliant, pioneering work with The Miracle Project, which she created and directs, has garnered accolades throughout the world and is the subject of the Emmy Award winning documentary, Autism: The Musical. She also created and directs a groundbreaking Bar and Bat Mitzvah program for children on the autism spectrum. She has been the subject of articles in the Los Angeles Times, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Jerusalem Post, among many others and has appeared on CNN, CBS News, Oprah Radio and NPR. Hall has been honored by countless organizations, among them Autism Speaks, Autism Society of America, The Doug Flutie Foundation, and The Malibu Special Education Foundation. A featured, inspirational speaker at autism events throughout the United States and Canada, she recently spoke on behalf of World Autism Awareness Day at the United Nations.

This event is free and open to the community. For more information, please call Sue Tregerman at 516-822-3535 x320.

Created in September 2005 with funding from The J.E. and Z.B. Butler Foundation, The K.I.S.S. It's too late for my little man. With FT school now he is in bed by 7:30pm. DH won't be available to watch DS that evening. Otherwise, I would have come.

Thanks for trying to organize babysitting. I totally would if it was an earlier time.

Keep me posted for other events. I would love to go.
