If you didn't have a religious wedding ceremony...

when you have children, do you plan to baptize/christen or the religoius equivalent of that?

Will you have some kind of introduction party?

Or some other kind of ceremony?

Will you name godparents (or something like that)?

We were both raised catholic (I was raised very loosely catholic) and we did not have a religious wedding ceremony. My FH feels we should still baptize our child. I feel we should have some kind of introduction ceremony where we can invite the family and name godparents/guardians. But not do it in the catholic church.

Does anyone else done this or plan to do it?

=)

I dont think a religious ceremony/non religious ceremony has anything to do with how you raise your child.

Well, we I guess I should explain further...

We plan to be open minded and teach our children about all kinds of religions and support whatever religious our children plan to pursue. My husband is well versed in all religions even though he was raised catholic.

I'd still like to name godparents/guardians and hold some kind of introduction for the child even if we do not officially baptize (or the like).

Re: If you didn't have a religious wedding ceremony...

I personally don't want to do anything. DH wants a Bris (sp?) but I don't want it because I don't want a Christening. And I won't do one without the other. I want the baby circumcised in the hospital.

Maybe just have a party, but leave out the church part.

Although we did not have a religious wedding ceremony and we were both raised as Catholics...we will be having a christening and naming godparents to our baby.

We are not having a religious ceremony but still do intend to baptize our children. Both FH and I were raised catholic but are no longer practicing. We both decided after our confirmations not to attend church. I want to teach our children about every religion and let them chose, but give them some sort of basis and belief system when they are younger.

Re: If you didn't have a religious wedding ceremony...

I don't know if we had a "religious" ceremony or not...we didn't get married in church, and we are catholic so we didn't do it the "right" way - at least in the eyes of our parents. I think we will christen our children when the time comes though... In all honesty, it's very hypocritical of me because I'm not a very religious person AT ALL, but I just think I'm supposed to take this route for some reason.

Re: If you didn't have a religious wedding ceremony...

having the bris (correct spelling) is the religious ceremony with the blessing. I know for us we did the bris for both boys and if we had a girl we would have had her batized. and later had a naming for her.

Its funny my older son is asking alot of questions about jesus cause mos tof his friends are having there communions now.

That's kind of what my husband thinks. But being that we are not religious, I don't want to be hypocrytical and do a church thing.

I will baptize my child...but probably only to make my mother happy and shut her up...very bad reason I know.

Re: If you didn't have a religious wedding ceremony...

We are not planning to have any sort of religious ceremony for our children. DH is Jewish, but basically we are both agnostic. We will appoint guardians in case something happens to us, but it will be in legal documents not a ceremony.

Re: If you didn't have a religious wedding ceremony...

We are not having a religious ceremony...because we have a son already.
But my son was baptized in the hospital, and we are having the actual christen ceremony this weekend. I want my son to make his communion and confirmation...but if doesn't get married in a church..im fine with that.

I wasn't married when I had my son, but I still had him baptized and had god parents.

no - we are atheists...

Will you have some kind of introduction party?

yes

Or some other kind of ceremony?

my friend is planning a baby naming ceremony

Will you name godparents (or something like that)?

no...but mainly b/c I didn't want to choose one person over another...and family obligations were showing their ugly face...not having anyone - just makes it easier
