aggression

My german shephard/shar-pei mix is 9 months old and growled and broke the skin on my mother's finger today. He usually barks a lot and nips and hands, but has never growled or intentionally bit someone. I am pregnant and now I am nervous about keeping him. Overall he is a good dog. Is there any hope, does anyone have any advice about what to do... Thanks

Was your mom doing anything unusual to him? My dog hates when people grab around her lower mouth and chin --- she will start to growl and will go to bite if the person doesn't stop in time?

He stole and plastic bag and she was trying to get it away from him. He is always stealing things and we grab them out of his mouth without him doing anything. I don't think she did anything to hurt him. I hope it was just an isolated occurence.

YEP!! Molly does this too. She did it last night actually to one of my friends.

I do think that animals behave differently when they are around children. My dog has been around a TON of kids and has never acted with them the way she has with us.

All I can say is make sure to watch the dog once you have the baby (which I'm sure you would anyway) and if something doesn't look right then I would be extra careful.
