Parent Teacher Nights...
I just like to use them as an excuse to say to the teacher...
"he's awesome, right?"

You mean conferences? Or open school night? In our school, open school night we are not allowed to ask questions about our child. We need to make an appt. to discuss our children. Its more of a "teacher telling parents about the class" thing.
Conferences I like to sit and listen to what the teacher has to say. We go over the report card, I ask questions, and its more of a formal thing.
As for going in expecting to hear how great my kid is, no. I expect to hear how well my child is doing, what he needs help with, and to get a general idea of his behavior.

Unfortunately we have to use ours to talk seriously about SD's behavior...we will be using this one to see if we need to move forward with a more serious behavioral evaluation.
