sedona, phoenix
On saturday were are flying to phoenix, we are supposed to be staying in sedona for 5 days and back phoenix for 3. There are some major fires there now and if they are not contained soon were are going to stay in tucon instead of sedona. Has anyone been to this area. Any must see places or restaurants? I know the grand canyon, but I'm worried if we have to change our hotel the drive will be really long. TIA

Re: sedona, phoenix
The Grand Canyon is in the northern part of Arizona, and Tuscon is in the southern part. Phoenix is in the middle and Sedona is about 2 hours north of Phoenix, on the way to the Grand Canyon. So if you can't get to Sedona, getting to the Grand Canyon could be tough too. There is a lot to do and see in Phoenix if you can't go to Sedona. Can you spend an extra day or two there? If you like museums, check out the Heard Museum in Phoenix. It is a great Native American Museum.
If you are going to Tuscon, you could drive south and go to Nogales, which is a town on the border of Mexico. There is a lot of shopping and when I was there (more than 10 years ago now) it was nicer and safer than Tiajuana.
Also, two other places in southern Arizona I have heard were fun to visit are Tombstone and Bisbee.

Re: sedona, phoenix
Sedona is one of my favorite places in the US. I was in AZ for about 6 months for work. 3 of them were in Scottsdale, and 3 of them were in a town called Sierra Vista which is about a hour south of Tuscon right on the mexican border. Sierra Vista was awful, and I must admit that I wasn't crazy about Tuscon either. Go north!!!
