Bactrim (sulfa) allergy
has anyone had an allergy to the antibiotic Bactrim? I have been on it for about 8 days and last night and this morning I had a low grade fever (99-100) and after I got out of the shower I realized I had a rash ALL over my body. Little red bumps. By this afternoon the rash become more pronounced and started becoming itchy. Went to the dr. and told me to take benedryl and stop the bactrim.

The same thing happened to me, just no fever. My rash came out early around day three, but at first thought nothing of it untill it kept getting worse.. Good luck.

Re: Bactrim (sulfa) allergy
i do, but found out when i was little. it's quite a common drug too, so just be sure to let all your drs (and hospitals) know. the reaction can be much worse the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc. time around and has the potential to develop into SJS (though VERY rare, still doesn't look like fun...).
i haven't had any problems since the first reaction in elementary school, i just make sure everyone knows. as it's a common allergy (as pp said), it's usually handled very well.
ETA: make sure you say you're allergice to "sulfa drugs" as it's in a few different ones. and if anyone tells you to put cabbage on something to reduce swelling (ie while breastfeeding) don't. according to the LC at the hospital, it'll cause a reaction. go figure...

Re: Bactrim (sulfa) allergy
I am allergic to Sulfa...
I found out quite a while ago ( maybe I was a pre-teen )...Broke out with a nasty rash and never had any Sulfa meds again...
As others have said, make sure you always let the doctors, nurses etc. know right away that you are allergic to it..My medical chart has it noted with a bright sticker on the top and when I have to be hospitalized I am given a bracelet
