If you've had a baby...

When did you tell your class and parents? I want to tell before break at 17/18 weeks but my principal won't let me until after Christmas break. I am hiding it now under loose shirts but it's getting ridiculous. I'll be huge when I get back!

I told around 17/ 18 weeks or so.

Why is your principal making you wait?

With my first I didn't tell until 18 weeks but that was because of summer vacation or they would have known sooner.

With my second I told around 12 weeks. I was showing early and my students started asking.

I teach high school if that makes a difference.

I really don't see what the big deal is either way. You can tell as soon as you get back right? I think I told after thanksgiving and I was due in March.

How is this your principal's decision?

My students GUESSED last year at 9wks so the cat was out of the bag early. Nobody can tell you when to tell. That would annoy me, personally.

That's insane that your principal won't "let" you tell - why the heck not???

I told at the 13 week mark, it was pretty hard to hide.

principal has no right to tell you when or how to share your news. I told about 19 weeks with my first and 16 with this one.

I had no choice but to tell earlier than I wanted to.

I had a crazy lunch duty... 200 kids and on my feet the entire time. MY high risk OB said "no way". I had to tell admin. at 6 weeks. And well, we know how well some staff members of a high school love gossip so I had to tell my students a few days later.

To be fair, at that point I had already gained 10 lbs and it was getting hard to hide with twins.

I;m wondering why your principal said that to you

I work in a really small school district where parents are highly involved. My principal wants me to wait as long as possible because she doesn't want to deal with the parents questions/concerns.

I talked to my team leader and she said to just start wearing more form fitting clothes because when I brought it up to me principal she said "you're not showing yet, I'm not worrying about it until then." Well, since then I've stopped hiding under clothes as much and gotten lots of comments from other teachers about having a little belly.

I had the opposite. My principal wanted me to tell sooner and I wanted to wait until after I had my results from my 12 week sono, which took 2 weeks to come in. I told at 14-15 weeks. Parents were great. I thought they'd be upset as many of my students had their teacher from last year go out on maternity.

I told mine at around 15 weeks. I'm on the 5th floor and was told I wasnt really allowed to travel up and down the stairs so they knew something was up. My 15th week also happened to be in September, so it worked out for me. I didnt make a special announcement to parents though- I'm sure the kids told their parents

My principal is very respectful of what we want.

I came out after the 1st trimester. I wasn't showing at all and he was surprised and very supportive.

I then told my Department Chair and the students shortly after.

I think your principal is out of line.
