If your baby/toddler had an extra wide foot....
Did it narrow down as they got older? I have to buy him shoes again and stride rite is the only one that seems to carry the XW width and even at those stores, the selection is limited. I am thinking about biting the bullet and buying the XW boots this year, because he really likes stomping around in the snow.
If yes, do you remember when you could start buying less expensive shoes?

DS is still in W shoes. I get them from the striderite outlet. Also 6pm.com has huge sales on kids shoes. I have not ordered from them though.

Re: If your baby/toddler had an extra wide foot....
My sons both have W feet and still have to wear W shoes at almost 6 and 3 years old. I am still very limited to what they can wear. Even some wide width styles don't work for them. (At some point both were measured XW but it didn't last long but W still there...)

yes, DD had a wide foot for awhile and now she is measuring regular width. I get her shoes at stride rite outlet - their wides always fit her well and the outlet was much cheaper.

Thanks for the replies. I have tried the Stride Rite outlet, but they never have XW in the size I need when I go.

Re: If your baby/toddler had an extra wide foot....
DS #1 had wide feet. Not XW but W and he now can wear M shoes. DS #2 was an XW, he has a high instep so when they were non-XW shoes, the strap would not be able to close on shoes with a velcro strap. He's 4 1/2 now and he seems to be fitting in more brands besides just Stride Rite XW shoes so I'd say it's narrowed. I'd still consider it a wide foot but definitely not as wide.
ETA: Have you tried Payless? I remember getting sandals for DS #2 there even when his foot was at it's widest.
ETA #2: What size foot is he? I might have a pair of boots in an XW.

He's wearing a 7 1/2 right now, but I think they are too small. I want to take him this weekend at least to get measured, even if we don't buy anything.
I may post his old shoes on the sell/swap/thread for free. Even though they are worn, someone might like to have them as a spare since I know we never buy more than 2 pairs at a time.

both of mine were XW. By 3, my oldest was in Ms. #2 is 3.5 and he still needs a W (not a XW though)

Both were a XW in the beginning, one is definitly a M, other is borderline, they guy at stride rite said it depends on the shoe since some run narrower then others if he is a M or a W.
I also always bought at the outlets.
