So tomorrow I am picking up 2 kittys that are a TNR that I did..**Updated with picture** updated 12/30

We had 7 cats (mom and babies) Sadly 2 babies did not make it before I could get someone to help me. 1 went home in the owner of the guys at the pizza place next to me. The other one was rescued by a lady who just so happen to be back there when I was with another one. So that left mom and 2 of her little ones. Rita a local cat rescue lady came finally and helped catch them. First 2 in where the babies. 2 black and white. ( brought the to Save a Pet in Port Jefferson)GREAT SAFE AT LAST!! Now to get mom. YUP caught mom. I noticed 2 days prior she was having a hard time breathing. She is just about trusting me t this point to pet her. (sorry out of order, they have been there for about 4 months now and I have been feeding them and so has the pizza guys)

after work Sat. I meet Rita at the local vet she uses in Setauket, Dr. Templeton (great vet by the way) Momma cat was sooooo loving. She HAD to have been someones cat. All test came back negative. GREAT but she was still breathing very hard. Dr. Templeton said I dont feel right letting her get fixed with out an xray. Fine do it. rather be safe then sorry Sadly after the xray we learned she must have too been recently hit by a car and her difram(sp) was torn badly. It was the right thing to do, put her down. She was A BEAUTY!!! DAM THE JERK who dumbed her.

The great news is tomorrow 2 of her surviving babies are successfully T&N. Clean , tested negative for everything. I am picking them up tomorrow at Save A Pet till, Ying and Yang,(they are black and white) heal enough to be released. By the time they will be ready to go back to keeping the rats away, Rita will have a hut set up insulated with hay and insulation to keep them warm and safe. The pizza place put up a collection bucket for the cats to help off set the cost of about $400. For treatments they have gotten and up keep of the hut,and food.

I hope my animals will be ok for week with the 2 of them here. I have a create that I will be keeping them in , to keep them and my animals safe from each other.

I will try to post pictures of them tomorrow when I pick them up.

I just got home with them . What a hard thing it was getting them to go in the create. They wanted to stay in the carriers. I put my dogs out while I put them in. I dont think they have ever seen a dog. My cats came running when they heard them but kept their distance. I was so worried my cats would make it hard.

Mittens and Boots are now safely in the create with a blanket covering most of it to make them feel safe. They are so cute. I just wish I could keep them. The female(black and white) was/is hissing a lot and the boy (white and black) is calm and eating . So I hope by the end of the week they are here, that maybe I can find them a home. Boots(the girl) I am worried though. She is really not happy right now.

I will update as I go on. Today was a GREAT day. Last Night not so much.

I had to change the litter box. Little girl got scared and booked. I had to chase her for about an hour(well not literally chase but you can get the picture) I finally,after she bit me, I used a foam toy to coach her and got her out of my daughters closet into the carrier then back in the create. Today changing the litter box , she jumped right into the carrier and back into the create with no problems. Petting her is going better today. She lets me with no hissing . Just is just in a tight ball. I hope to get her to relax and enjoy it.
Little man is making GREAT progress. He lets me pet him(loves it) hold him for about 5 mins before wanting to go back in the create. while changing the litter box he decided he wanted to jump the create and go behind the tv stand. Ok I let him. He played with his sister from under neath it. it was cute. He is also playing with a string ball my daughter made. after about 20 mins he decided he had enough fun and went back to the create and snuggled up to his sister.He is so protective over her it is TOOO cute. These 2 can not be separated! So that was tonight! I think I WILL be able to adopt them out! It will take time but I think they will be OK. Tomorrow is another day. We shall see.

Wait, you're putting them back on the street? Aren't they just babies=not feral yet?
Take them to a rescue if you can, call Freeport animal shelter or North Shore Animal League, they'll take babies for sure. I would say BRING THEM TO ME, but my husband really does not want cats in the apartment, so until we have a house where i can put a litter box far away from him I can't have kitties :(
Please think about trying to place them before releasing them, anything can happen to them on the streets.

They are about 8 months to a year old. They are feral. They only come out to me because they know i feed them. They willl not let me grab them. TRUST ME I DONT WANT TO but these guys are very feral.

ETA: Please dont make this a bad thing. Ok. I just wanted to do right by them and get them fixed and their first round of shots and make sure they did not have babies of their own.

Not trying to make it a bad thing, but because they are so young they *might* be able to be socialized. Not saying you have to keep them, just maybe see if a rescue can take them in

there are a few in my neighborhood that i feed that i would like to do the same... just dont know who to call.

also, is the pic before or after the neuter/spay? did they clip one of their ears to signal they are sterile now?

You did a great thing ... I just started feeding one that has been TNR'd also .. After 6 years of not doing anything for it we decided to atleast buy food and feed it.. I think they only know what they know .. I cant take a cat in .. My dh has terrible allergies to them ,, He cant even tolerate the hairless ones ..

bumping for update. They are making GREAT progress!!!

She (Mittens) allows me to hold her and brush her. she is purring FINALLY. I leave the create open now when I am home and able to watch them with my dogs and cats. She is very accepting. She is right now with her brother under the Christmas tree. Still SCARED as all heck but doing 1000% better. I think with the right family she will learn humans are her best friend!

HE on the other hand is DOING WONDERFUL!!!! He plays with toys and purs up a storm when he is pet on his tummy. he love to explore but not to far from his sister. They with out a doubt need to be adopted together.

I do everything I can to help her break her shell. But it is going to take time and patience. I try to hold her at least 2 times a day. I do have to grab her out of the create but when i have her , it is longer and longer every day. With him i pet him like crazy to keep him use to touch but trying to break her more.

So Bottom line , They NEED each other. They MUST be adopted together. She will take time to make her love you, he just needs play time. IF you know anyone that can deal with the 2 of them PLEASE let me know. The create I am willing to part with to help them feel safe. FREE. They are doing GREAT for kittens that NEVER have seen love before.
