A good alternative for declawing a cat?

So, my husband and I just had an argument.

He said that when we have kids we must have our cat declawed (our cat is known to not be good about keeping his claws in and we've had a few close calls with him nearly scratching our faces, but never intentially). He doesn't think that keeping his claws trimmed is enough. I am very strongly against declawing our cat.

I came across a product called Soft Paws Nail Caps for Cats . You glue them on, they last for 3 months, and they aren't supposed to interfere with the cat being able to retract and extend his claws. Has anyone tried these? What do you think, is it worth a shot?

Thanks!!

Yes, a few people on here have, I know that Dina (sassyz75) used them for a long time.

Yes!
I applied them to my Mom's cat.
They work great!
The lasted about 2 months.
Luckily, I had a very cooperative cat, the vet said many cats don't allow you to get all of the soft paws on, but we were lucky!
I definetly recommend them!!!!
A MUCH more humane alternative to declawing.

Heard positive things about them.

Here is an article you might like on declawing.

ANd here is one about another alternative to declawing.

Declawing
The term “declaw” is a misnomer, and implies that just the claws are removed. This is untrue—declawing actually involves amputation of the end of the cat’s toes. Cats suffer significant pain recovering from declawing. An alternative surgery—called tenectomy—severs the tendons in the toes so the cat is unable to extend the nails to scratch. There appears to be less pain associated with recovery from this surgery. Owners who opt for this surgery must clip the cat’s nails

Re: A good alternative for declawing a cat?

My DH has a few pet owners use Soft Paws for their cats, and they are happy with them.

I also have a friend who files her cats nails so they are not sharp...she started doing this with them when they were kittens, now several years later, the cats are grown and love getting their nails filed.
