Anyone teach about the Titanic?

I need some ideas for fun projects. I'm incorporating with ELA.

Re: Anyone teach about the Titanic?

I don't personally, but a social studies teacher does. He does it with the librarian and like the exhibit in Times Square assigns the kids a real life person on the ship and at the end of the stations, they find out if they lived or not. The library stands at the door at a podium and "checks" them in. Depending on their ticket they might have to go to the health station and answer questions etc.

I'm not sure what each station is. I know one is the health and immigration station and I know each station has different things to do according to class (actually I think he uses it as a way of differentiating).

I'll have to ask the librarian tomorrow.

Re: Anyone teach about the Titanic?

I talked to the librarian quickly today. Since it's done with a SS teacher, the focus is SS, not literature, although they do have readings at each station that supports what's going on at that station. She says she pulls from Dear America (there's a Titanic one) and several other books. Some stations are readings and questions to answer, others are more interactive, like etiquette lessons or figuring out longititude. Also, some of the students are assigned roles, so at one station they interview "Ismay", "Captain Smith" and a couple of the famous people on board.
