Is the cage too big? Do you hae the divider up to make it smaller? There should only be enough room for her to walk in circle and lay down. If its too big, then she will make on one side of the cage and then sleep on the other side.

Yup - make sure the cage isn't too big.

Also, if you are leaving the puppy longer than she can hold it and she is forced to go in the cage, you may create a dirty dog. You do not want that. If the dog must be crated for long periods of time, please find someone to come let her out every couple of hours.

I have a 9-week old puppy at home right now, so I know how much work they are. They simply cannot hold it more than a few hours at a time - sometimes not even that long. If it's a smaller breed, they will not be able to hold it even a couple of hours at a time.

Also, if they go in the crate, you need to thoroughly clean the crate so the dog cannot smell it anymore. Even if you can't smell it, the dog may be able to still smell it.

Also, how consistent are you with her eating and potty schedule? She should eat at the same times every day, go out at the same times. Eventually she will get into a routine and you'll know about when she will need to go out. She should have to go soon after eating / drinking, too. Every puppy is different, but they all have to go somewhere between immediately after and 1 hour after eating.

Finally, is she only peeing in the crate or is she also defacating? For the pee, are you still wetting her dry feed? If so, I would back off on the water in the feed. I'm not suggesting you limit her water intake (except perhaps picking up the water bowl an hour or two before bed) -- just limiting her FORCED water intake.

If she is defacating in the cage after going outside... what are you feeding? My pup was free fed and on cheap feed when I first got him. (We changed both of those things immediately.) The cheap feed made him have to poop more frequently and the free-feeding meant he was on absolutely NO schedule.

Hope this helps! Potty training takes a lot of patience, but it'll be over before you know it! Chat Icon

Re: potty trainning

you also might need to use an odor remover (nature's miracle) when you clean your pup's poo and pee. They usually will go in a spot that smells like it and remember dogs have a better sense of smell.

the cage isnt big at all..she pretty much pees on the blanket and when she goes dodo she hides it under her blanket to i guess not sleep on it.....we feed her a lil water in the food because she is teething, she is almost 6 mths.....her peeing schedule we may not do same times but we take her out a bunch of times. she also pees on the pad she sometimes has accidents on floor but in the same room as pad. We take her outside alot and sometime she may pee and not **** or nuttin at all and we have to leave...and when we leave we come back and she made in cage.

Re: potty trainning

maybe you might need to take the blanket out. It seems if she does most of her business in it then she might be confusing it for the wee wee pad.

If you can try to block off part of the crate where she can only lay down and turn around.

If possible keep her on a schedule and do no feed her in her crate. we were told by our trainer never feed your dog in the crate. have them eat and drink outside the crate and take them out before you put them in the crate.

I hope that helps.
