Starting my own child care..how/what to do???

...I was a NYC elementary school teacher for 8 years before I went out on child care alomst 4 years ago with my DD...

I currently baby-sit a friend's child and honestly I love being home and cant imagine going back! I dont even know if i could go back...I have been out of the loop for so long...not to mention when I get together with my teacher friends they scare me with how much more is now required of them...

SO I am wondering if I could maybe look elsewhere for a career....

How would I go about starting a child care?? Do I do it out of my house, do I do it at a building....do child care employees make a decent salary to just work at someone else's company?!?!?

Anyone that works in the child care profession, I would love your input?

Thanks so much!

if you are interested in becoming an in home childcare provider yoiu can contact the child care council of nassau or suffolk, depending where you live. they will be able to help you start or at least give you the requirements needed.

Ditto ( I am a NYS registered family daycare provider)..Child care Council of Suffolk is who I am registered through...
All classes are taken there, and my inspector is from there.

Depending on where you live, you can also contact Little Flower in Riverhead who often offers informational sessions on how to become a provider as well...

The New York State Office of Children is who licenses..Here is a great resource to get you started
