Who here is a social worker?

In reading some recent posts here, it seems like there are tons of social workers. I was just curious what type of work you do, and if you like your job.

I work for a not-for-profit agency and provide free family and individual counseling (kids, teens, adults). I honestly love the work and meeting all the different types of people with their own stories really helps to put things in perspective. The only downside is that it's a part time job until we get some more grants and funding - which is hopefully happening soon.

I am. I currently work for a large home care agency providing Service Coordination through the NYS TBI Medicaid Waiver program.

I am glad you have started this thread. I have had some people FM me lately with questions about the field.

P.S. I like my job for the most part. There is often stress and a ton of bureacracy like any social work job.

For the most part, it's good though.

I'm a Multi-Dimensional Family Therapy case manager and I really enjoy it. The pay is terrible of course, but the job is pretty rewarding. I also recently started running Independent Living Skills group therapy with teenage boys in my agency's group homes. I LOVE doing the groups (though the kids can very often make me want to strangle them, lol).

I used to be a foster care worker and wasn't a huge fan because it was just way too depressing. It certainly made me appreciate my life a whole lot more though.

I am a LMSW. I am currently a program director of a family center that provides advocacy and support to families and children with mental health issues.

I do family, individual and grp therapy for children and adolescents at a hospital - love my job!!

BTW I worked with the RRDC at Mercy Haven last year for the TBI program

I am!! I am an LCSW that works for a non-profit doing family and individual counseling. I also just started private practice part time in Bellport.

I have my MSW and used to work w/ teenagers in residential settings. I now work in higher education. I keep meaning to take the CSW exam but justdon't have time (and would also like to get my license, but don't have time for that either)!
