Re: working out ?
Losing weight is all calories in vs. calories out. You need to burn more calories than you consume.
You could lose weight by doing just the treadmill or classes 3x a week...but your diet plays a major role in that !

Can you lose weight just by doing the treadmill and not changing your eating habits? No.
Can you lose weight by changing your eating habits, just doing the treadmill, and no classes or weight training? Yes.
The biggest factor in weight loss is calorie (read: food) consumption.
And can you lose weight just by changing your eating habits and not exercising at all? YES.

Re: working out ?
Theoretically, yes, but it's not very likely. It will also be nearly impossible to keep that weight off because you haven't done anything to increase your metabolism. Building muscle increases your metabolic function allowing you to maintain weight loss. So true, long term, weight loss is about more than just burning calories, it;s about changing how your body works - most people don't do that.

Re: working out ?
I lost 8 lbs by running 5-6 days a week for about an hour a day. I did not change my diet at all, but I eat pretty well to begin with. It is definitely possible.

Re: working out ?
I started running 3yrs ago never dieted and lost more weight then planned. That was running 5-6days a wk. Last May after doing the half I went down to 3-4 and had put on about 10lbs but now I'm back to 5days 30-35mins a day and it's slowly coming back off. I'm not a big food eater mostly anything that enters my mouth is junk. I'm not ready nor do I think I will be ever ready to give up my sweets so that's why I started exercising. Don't know if it can work like this for everyone but thank goodness it works for me GL !

Re: working out ?
I think if you keep the same eating habits you have now and add 5 days of running (30 minutes) you will see weight loss, though it won't be as significant as counting calories and running.
I really recommend myfitnesspal.com
It has helped me drop 7 pounds since mid November and it's free!

Re: working out ?
You can, I would fluctuate the time in your cardio though...do 30min one day, 45 another, 1hour another then go back to 30.
I think I read somewhere that you need to work out more than 20min for the body to begin to really burn the calories.

Re: working out ?
You can but def make sure you keep a close eye on the calorie intake. In order to lose a pound, you need to cut out about 3000 calories a week , correct me if I am wrong. Working out will help and then eating less or healthier options.

I always worked out, but was only doing it 3-4 days a week for about 40 minutes. I increased intensity a few years ago in December (weekly mileage increased from 20-25 miles a week to 30-35 miles a week). I lost about 8 pounds by May (5-6 months). Note: I really did not change my diet, but like I said in general I eat pretty healthy. I have never counted calories or anything like that so I can not give you advice on that. I have maintained this weight for 3 years.

Re: working out ?
Yes. Weight loss is simple math. To lose weight you must burn more calories than you consume. You may also have to watch what you eat though and track calories.
