I HATE THOSE!!!!

WHy do you need to wake me early to tell me we don't have to get ready for school. I get teachers need to know, but they can just call them, or people can turn on the news.

Once I get woken up at 5, I am up. GRRRRRR.

ours was 4:54 this morning.

It was 5:02 the last time and then I had to wait for 5:30 for my work district to call that was torture!

Got a 5 AM call today from DS's preschool. The most obnoxious thing about it was.... he doesn't even have school today anyway! He goes MWF! Arrrrgggggh.

As a teacher I can tell you why they call... it doesn't matter if they post it on the website (people still say they don't have internet accessChat Icon ), News 12 (some have FiOS) or a million other news stations, people either don't have the patience or listen/watch, don't have the time to listen/watch or those who have to get to work (or work at home) and must make other arrangements for childcare appreciate knowing asap.

Even with the all of the above, including the Shoutpoint phone call, I can guarantee people were trying to call the main office of the district.

When we have a dusting the phones go crazy in the main office asking if we are open. I'm often there when the calls come in.

We got ours at 5:30am. As a teacher who leaves at 5:50 it wouldn't have really helped me. But a quick phone call and then roll over and go back to sleep is better than having to get up and watch for it on the news.

I wish you could sign up for whether you want it or not. People who use the before care probably do need to get the call very early though.

You get them that early so that you can arrange child care if you need it I guess.

Sometimes I feel like schools are damned if they do damned if they don't

Our start at 6am which I'm grateful for. Nothing makes me happier than letting the kids sleep in.

I usually have to go to work anyway but I can sleep later so for me I just get up, answer the phone and then readjust my alarm clock Chat Icon

I fully agree. As a teacher I can't tell you the number of calls our office gets, even with an inch or two on the ground.

I was actually up at 5 & didn't get my call to 5:50 (I leave at 6), so honestly would have liked an earlier call. Although they have the capability to call teachers separate, but rarely do.

If I could get back to sleep that would be fine, I just can't once I am up at that time.

I actually prefer them! The school my kids go to didn't have them last year, so I had to get out of bed to check the website or find it on the TV or radio. Now that they have this Reach program, I get the call, answer and then go right back to sleep!

Re: 5am Robo calls

I don't like them at this age (kindergarten kids and below) since once my kids wake up they are up for the day. And there is nothing worse than being up an hour earlier on a day when they are home all day without school! I changed the call number to my cell phone so I can still get the call and it doesn't wake up the kids.

Re: 5am Robo calls

I'm glad we get the calls. The phones aren't anywhere near DC's rooms, so they don't hear it. It makes it easier figuring out what we're going to be doing in the early morning.

We actually don't get calls - they are supposed to but our class mom (who is supposed to make the calls for DD's preschool class) has decided to just email everyone instead. I would actually rather get a call b.c our computer is in the basement so unless I see on TV that our local public school is closed I have to get up and go down to the basement to find out if I'm sending her or not.

Re: 5am Robo calls

I hate that 5am call! And truthfully, you go on news12 online and look at the list, it takes 2 seconds. No need to listen or wait for the info.

(I get why they do it, just hate it)
