school zoning question...

We live in Bay Shore school district. In Bay Shore there are 3 (K-2nd) schools, 2 (3rd-5th) schools, 1 middle school, and 1 high school.

If my son attends public school he is slotted to go to the elementary school that is furthest from our house. We have to pass the other 2 schools to bring him, which probably means a 30-40 minute bus ride. There is an elementary school right up the block from my house so this makes no sense to me.

Does anyone know how school zoning works?

Anyone know if there is a map that I can look at?

I'm kind of upset about this, am I just being silly?

That does not sound right. You should call central office and ask. They will explain it to you. If you do not have the number, go on the district website. you can get it there.
