Spinning and foot pain
So I took the plunge and went to my first spin class on Thursday. I liked it- although it was sooo hot in there I did my best to keep up even though my arse hurt before we even started.
I wound up having to leave after 40 minutes (It's a 55 min class) because of the pain in my feet. It felt like someone stuck each one in a vice and started squeezing to make my feet more narrow.
Is this common? Will it go away? Should I see a podiatrist?
Help!

Congrats on starting the spin class! I am by no means an expert in spinning but I am currently doing it 1-2 times a week. The butt pain will go away. For me it took about 3 classes and now no pain at all! As far as the foot pain goes, I have no experience with it, but what type of shoes are you wearing and what are the pedals on the bike like? On the bikes I use, there are straps that you place your feet in and they are easily adjustable to tighten or loosen. Could your shoes be ties too tight? As I said, I'm no expert, just trying to help!

Good for you! When you put your foot on the pedal and into the cage (the straps) the ball of your foot should be what is on the pedal. You don't necessarily want your toe all the way int the cage. If your foot is too far in, this can cause the pain in your feet as well as if the straps were tightened too much!

If the straps are too tight on your foot, that can be causing the pain. Next time you go, loosen the straps a little. It helps!

This is the most common issue - people putting their feet in too far, it stresses the tendons and ligaments.
