Good book on discipline I'm reading

Have a New Kid by Friday
by Dr. Kevin Leman

He talks about how to change your child's attitude, behavior, and character in 5 days. Pretty interesting and easy read which discusses different techniques to use for various age children.

Would this book be good for a 3 yr old? I am at my wits end with mine!

yep. I think the earliest example he uses is 18 months. I've seen in a change in my 5, 3, and 2 yr olds already!

You got it. It's actually the book Beth was talking about at the last meeting. I was half paying attention and then it clicked when I saw it at the library. Good read.

Re: Good book on discipline I'm reading

I have this and it is a very good and quick and easy read.

Its all about setting up expectations in a calm way. For example, ask your child to do something once. No counting, no warnings, no arguing. When they don't do it, make a mental note. Next time the child asks you for something like to play a game, take them to the park, your respond calmly, "Sorry, I don't feel like doing that with you today since you wouldn't help me with (fill in chore) earlier today."

No threats, no warnings, no yelling and be 100% consistent.

The key is actually changing YOUR behavior and how you respond to things the child does to influence your childs behavior.

Chat Icon Well I'm glad someone was paying attention - I had no recollection of her mentioning that book but I knew I had heard of it somewhere before.
