Job Contract Question
I have been at my currect job for 6 years. After being there for two years they offered health care to me. I have been receiving it ever since. I sign a contract every year and it states that I get this insurance. It was a perk after you have been there for x amount of years that they offer it to your family too. So, for the last three years I have had coverage for the whole family.
In the past 6 months, my company has been undergoing an audit by the state. The state told them that their ways of offering this health insurance only to certain families that have been there for x amount of years is discriminatory and they have to offer the family coverage to all or none.
Needless to say they chose none and now I am being charged the $700 a month to pick up the family coverage.
Can they do this, just cut it out mid year in the middle of a contract? I signed a contract that does not expire til August 31st stating I get this. It just does not seem fair that I am now out 700 a month because they got in trouble, I feel they should have to honor the remainder of the contract or even buy out my contract for that matter.
Do I have a leg to stand on here? I mean what is the point of the contract? I am not getting a raise, so I am totally losing out here. I don't want to cause any trouble, I like where I work, but I am out on maternity and disability til May and in May I am going to have to pay them back over 1400 for the two months I am out now.

Re: Job Contract Question
Can they pay you the amount that you now have to pay as compensation?
