PT and orthopedist telling me different things...
I went to my orthopedist today (I had seen him a month ago and he told me I had runner's knee- went back for another check up today and he confirmed its definatly 100% runner's knee). On the bright side, its better off that its runner's knee and not something where I need surgery.
I had mentioned to him that the PT I'm working with told me I'm working out too much. He said that as long as my knee isn't hurting (which its not and I'm not running as part of working out) he thinks its good because it will make me stronger. The whole purpose of PT is to make me stronger.
So who do I listen to: The orthopedist or the PT?

I would consider the advice both have given me and in the end I would see what my body could tolerate. Personally I think working out 7 days a week like you stated in you previous post is putting a lot of stress on your muscles b/c you are not giving your body time to heal between work outs but this is just my opinion I think you need to listen to your body.

Re: PT and orthopedist telling me different things...
I would probably listen to the orthopedist. I'm guessing you had some sort of diagnostic test that he has reviewed and relied on to make his diagnosis, which the PT probably did not review. No disrespect to the PT, of course.
However, I think the best thing you can do is listen to your body. If you feel good working out, then go for it! Just take it easy so as not to set yourself back at all.

The orthopedist for two reasons:
1. He simply knows more than a PT
2. The PT doesn't want you to get stronger on your own, he wants you to keep paying for him to do that for you.

I believe runner's knee is very treatable, so that is a good thing. If it were me, I would just be sure to not overdo it and try to take off 1-2 days per week. Hope you feel better soon!

I would err on the conservative side.

Ouch!!! That's harsh!

Wow I can't believe the varying responses I got! I guess its not as cut and dry as I thought it would be.
I think, for now, I'm going to find a happy medium. Cut down a bit, but maybe not quite as much.
Thank you for the input everyone.

How so?
A medical Dr. has acquired more knowledge through education and experience, and a PT loses out if a patient gets better on their own - it's simply factual information, not trying to take a stab at anyone.

I agree. You said in the previous post you were working out 6-7 days a week, sometimes 2 times a day. I think keeping it to 5 days a week would be better in terms of recovery. It is not as though the pt said you could not exercise at all.
