Newly Married, My dog is having anxiety.

I just got married last week, my husband moved in with me and my 6 year old toy poodle (5 pounds).

My dog has been housebroken for years, now all of a sudden he's peeing again. I feel like it's some kind of stress-related thing.

It only happens overnights. I wake up to a puddle every single morning. I actually have to set my alarm clock for 10 minutes earlier now because I know I will have pee to clean up.

He has never been crated, so if I were to stick him in a cage now, he will totally freak.

I'm getting so frustrated and don't know how to fix this.

I tried taking his water away early in the night, letting him out a million times. Not working.

Help? Suggestions?

Hi! You might want to take your little guy to the vet. My kitty did this a bit when I adopted her (didn't do this with her previous owners at all) and it turned out there is a UTI type infection that can be brought on by stress. I gave her some medicine and all was better for my kitty.

Also, the peeing could be behavioral if the dog is feeling territorial now that your DH is there for good. Can your DH give the pup some extra attention? Even training him to do simple things (sit, leave it, etc) will give them some time to bond. He could do those things in the bedroom with some food rewards.

I would really suggest having DH establish some training with the pooch. If it is territorial, your dog could be reassured about the new situation if he has positive reinforcement from DH. A little bit of reinforcement and confirmation that he still has a special place in the home could be all he needs.

I hope it all gets better soon so you ALL can enjoy your honeymoon phase. Congrats on the marriage!
