How Would You Handle This Situation?
I handle the public relations for a company in the travel industry. We're a small company so there is lots of crossover and for me - that means general marketing, advertising and partner marketing. We have a new partnership marketing manager now and since our roles are somewhat similiar, it makes sense that we work together (that's how it worked with the last partnership marketing manager - there was great synergy! I was sorry to see him go...)
So now there's the new guy. I can tell he's very young and trying to prove himself, but I don't think he understands how we are meant to work together. For example, I gave him a lead for a company I did something with in the past. I feel like he should've included me in the correspondance/meeting since it was my contact. Instead, he bcc'd me on his first email to my contact, didn't even reference me by name and didn't invite me to the meeting. Then he met with Town & Country magazine. That's a key outlet for travel pr and I was not invited to that meeting.
I think he also has a problem coming to people who are not his superior. Our VP (who he constantly goes to even though he is not his boss) told him on several occasions to show things to me that he was working on to make sure the copy was up to brand standards. He did not listen and sure enough, something came out and it was wrong. It wasn't a huge mistake but had he shown it to me, the mistake would not have been there.
Today he asked me about my relationship with another partner I had worked with and can he have their contact information. I told him I am happy to share but they are a little tricky and why doesn't he tell me how he sees us working with them and I'll make the introduction. I said that because I was getting the sense that what he wanted to do wouldn't be feasible based on my past experience. So he said no problem, he would send me the details. But he didn't.
How would you handle this? I am always happy to share and work together but I do not appreciate someone taking my contacts and not even recognizing that the introduction came from me.
I don't want to get our VP involved. He has no patience.
