How do I use the Neti-Pot??

I just bought this from CVS and went to use it, and all I got was salty water in my mouth. I need it to work, because I'm pregnant and can't take any good drugs, and I'm not going to have another sleepless night. Can someone give me pointers???

It's tricky and awkward, but once you get the hang of it you'll be fine.

Take the "spout" part and put it up your right nostril. Tilt your head to the left side and slightly foward. Pour the liquid through the spot & into your right nostril. When you finish, blow your nose and then repeat on the other side.

Most important thing is to make sure to breath through your mouth and keep your mouth open - it'll prevent you from swallowing anything gross.

No pointers on the neti-pot as I use the neil-med squeeze bottle.

I'd say if you didn't already open it to return it and get a neil med sinus rinse kit.

The squeeze bottle has more 'force' than the neti-pot (which relies only on gravity) so it can push out more 'stuff' if it is stuck up there.

Make sure your tilting your head to the side and forward over the sink. Also make sure the water is warm and don't dump the water down your nose, pour it slowly. If nothing is coming out the other side, just be patient and let the warm water break thru.

It's not working!!!

There are just drips coming out of my left nostril, it's not pouring out like it did for Dr. Oz on the You Tube I watched.

I know this sounds gross, but make sure you are putting it as far back in your nose as you can..then the water will flow from one side to the other...pour at a decent flow rate..not too slow...it does feel weird, but wait 'til you see what comes out..my dr. gave me one of these and the squeeze bottle..I may give the bottle a try tonight...I am in the same boat as you!! Try Breathe Right strips and a humidifier as well!

Also, it helps to make sure your head is completely horizontal.

and DEFINTELY keep your mouth open, or breathe out gently through your mouth to help the water from coming out your mouth (ew!)

I LOVE my neti-pot (is that weird??) but it definitely took some getting used to. I was practically water-boarding myself the first couple of times. Make sure your water is warm enough, it makes all the difference.

I use the squeeze bottle, the best tip I can give is make sure you lean far enough over to prevent it from coming out of your mouth.
