ACK! Summer camp help needed!
I will TRY to be brief!
Our preschool has a summer camp for 06 and 07ers this year (T,W,Th 9-12). The past two years we enrolled Katherine; she's too old this year (5), but Abby (4) is eligible. We love it there and are personal friends with several staff.
Meanwhile, I applied for two spots in a NYC Parks Dept summer camp for 3-7 year olds (T,W, Th 9-5) thinking the girls could go together. We were accepted for one spot and waitlisted for the other. We need to pay a $200 deposit to retain the spot by 3/22. Registration at the preschool is 3/29.
I am somewhat wary about sending my kids (esp. if only one is accepted) to a camp for which we had no recommendation, especially since they're so little. If they both get accepted ultimately, I'd feel more comfortable with that. But I'd have to send in the $200 and take a gamble that Abs would make it in...if not swallow that money.
What will Kate do all summer long if I choose to send Abby to the preschool?
I added a poll, but if you have any thoughts...PLEASE, I could use them!!

Is it impossible to send Abby to preschool camp and Katherine to the other? I see they both start at 9am.....

Call up the NYC camp and tell them your situation.. Maybe you can get them to work with you...
I wouldn't feel comfortable having my kids at different camps.. too much running around for me.

It's not that...I'm sure my DH could take one and I'd take the other. It's just that Katherine may be uncomfortable around totally new people (but maybe I'm just projecting, which is entirely likely ). I guess the real issue is my own comfort level in sending my child/ren off to an unknown place...

I see your point, but wouldn't Abby be sad if Katherine got to go to camp and she didn't??

Do you know where on the waitlist you are for the NYC camp? That would affect my plan.
If its pretty high ask the camp the rate they are able to fill the waitlist in the past. Is there a really good chance? If so, I'd shoot for the NYC camp for both. Can you hold off on the preschool camp registration until you have a better idea of your shot at the NYC one?

I'd call and see where I was on the waitlist and see what the chances of getting in.
I would also "gamble" the 200 bucks.
I would also plan on preschool being a back-up....it may wind up being a good way to meet new friends...I know when my sisters were around, I tended to introvert and just play with them. On my own, I am a different person.
