Busing to after care programs

I have been trying to find an aftercare that will work with my work timings and is in fairly decent shape.
The school prog is only till 5 (sorry for repeating it time and again). I just can't get over it!!
We looked at the one place that the school suggested and that has a bus coming to the school but its pretty run down. Too many kids in small rooms-rickety stairs-just not safe.
I am wondering if there are options for me to have him bused to another after care program. Would this be something I need to arrange on my own or can I expect some help from the SD? I am willing to pay extra for the service.
I am just wondering about the logistics of it-who would I contact-the bus companies that work in our district? The SD itself?
Do you know of private bus companies that are reliable and safe in the Bethpage/Plainview area?
Do you know if I can send him to aftercare in another school district? I guess that would be a no!
Sorry for rambling so much. This is just driving me crazy! Will appreciate any help or suggestions.
Thanks.

You can bus him to any program within your district - it's akin to having him dropped off at your house. He has to be met at the bus stop. A school bus won't travel with child outside of the child's school district.

I checked because I sent my kids to a daycare down the rode from my house but in the next district. Continuing to use the daycare for before/after care was not an option unless I hired a private car service (yeah right!) to drive them.

Thanks. I was afraid I will not be able to bus him from one school district to another Chat Icon I will call and see if there are private school bus companies that will do it for a price. Safety is a big concern, though he won't be going more than a mile or two.
This is just so depressing-my options seem to be completely change my schedule(and hope my boss agrees) so that I can pick him up by 5 or send him to the aftercare place that I didn't like one bit.

I think you would be better off looking into a small daycare program with someone to pick him up. Some daycares wilt send there own bus.

Have you considered finding a SAHM in the area with kids in the same school? If you sign a child care form, then your child can be bussed to and from your babysitters house every day. Many SAHMs that I know would love to make a few extra dollars doing this.

Is this for Kindergarten? You can also choose private Kindergarten - my sister is doing this, b/c hours are not working for them.

Thanks for the suggestions. I looked into the family day care groups in our area-and they are not doing after school care. I do "know" a few moms from the library children's activities-but I don't know them well enough! Maybe if I interact with them and get comfortable I can think of doing that next yr. Unfortunately, this issue is going to be there even DS gets to grade school-might as well deal with it now.

Most franchise daycares, like Tutor Time, have after school programs that you can have your child bused too. They also provide camps for the school vacations. I would suggest calling around places like that.

Thanks. I am looking into a franchise program. One location I called is about 2 miles away from his school-and their response was " We don't have enough hrs in our day to send a bus to your town". Chat Icon
I am waiting to hear back from another location-they don't pick up the phone or answer emails. I will have to just drop by on Friday.
