Heads up, diabetics/users of metformin 500 mg., purchased at Wal-Mart
When I was first diagnosed with diabetes, I was put on Glucophage, but it caused BN, aka bathroom nonsense so much, I got switched to metformin, which has worked for me. Two days ago, I finally opened my new bottle of metformin, to find the pills were not like the ones I've been taking for yrs. The bottle said metformin 500 mg., but the tablets were different. I called before taking them, and was assured they're metformin. The first day with these pills, I got BN, as well as yesterday, so I called Wal-Mart Pharmacy, where I had gotten the three month supply for $10, and explained. I was told they sometimes have problems getting my "old" metformin, so they gave me the new stuff. The pharmacist said they had three bottles of my kind, so I went to get them. I was told I can contact their main guy, today, to see if I can get my $10 back for the three month supply I can't use, but it might be iffy. I told the gal, I talked to, that since no one had explained the change to me, when I picked them up, I think Wal-Mart has a responsibility to give me a refund!!! It's now noted on my file, and I intend to check all prescriptions from now on, BEFORE I pay. Wanted to let others know, so they won't be out $10, if it happens!! Thanks!!! Mary

i think walmart changed their supplier for alot of meds. i just picked up 3 scripts from them the other day and 2 of them had stickers saying the pills changed color or size, but were the same as my old meds. And in both cases, the pills look totally different, and they were both generics to begin with. so i assume they have a new supplier for their generics.

They recently changed their R humulin insulin as well. The good thing is, that it's changed to the exact same formula and company as the non-generic version, just much cheaper....
