Got an excess letter today. Anyone else in my shoes?
I am thinking of going back to the younger kids. Does anyone know where I would look for pre-schools that are hiring?

My district did round 1 of 4 last Friday. 48 people so far (I was one of them). I'm on Long Island. It's going to be a very, very bad situation all over

I am so sorry to hear this
My district is lucky this year - we are only losing 2.5 positions. Last year, there was over 30 cuts from our medium sized district (graduating class of about 300). We are pretty bare-bones as of right now.
ETA: We had ~15 people retire this year and no one is being hired to replace them. Additionally, we are losing 2 administrators and are cutting two sports teams. This of course is all tentative and subject to change.
I know one district by me is cutting their entire music department in addition to 45 other teachers.

I cannot believe the situation that our education system is in. Approximately 35 excess letters were sent out in my district (im upstate). 6 of them were counselors (im a hs counselor). I am one of the next on the list and I am going out on my maternity leave in 2 weeks. I planned to take until January, but I don't want to get bumped seniority wise so I will most likely go back in Sept.
so sorry for anyone who lost their jobs.. I truly hope things improve and soon!

It's really bad all over. My district already cut 40 just from elementary and are looking to cut another 40 positions if we don't take a pay freeze (which I already know will not happen). They have yet to cut ANY extracurricular activities/sports...just teachers

Same here-just teachers cut-no administrative, no programs, no sports cut. I don't get it.
