So confused
I don't really know where to talk about this, but I'm so confused for the fall.
I graduated 2 years ago with my masters, and since then have had 3 leave replacements, and one "permanent" job that ended because it was at a private school and enrollment numbers were done.
Looking forward to next year, I would love to get a tenure track job-obviously. However, I teach English which isn't a high demand area. The private school I worked for wants me to sign a contract for next year- the pay is okay, but I'll have benefits and I loved working there. However, they've had issues with people breaking contracts, so I have a feeling they may add something in about me not looking for other employment.
I'm so torn- it's not a place I could spend forever at because if the pay, but I did like it there and I'm young- and I would know for sure I have a job in the fall. But what happens if I get offered a tenure track position at some point?

Re: So confused
Is the contract for only one year? In that case I would sign. There is so much excessing going on that I wouldn't give up the job you have now for the unknown. I know it is so frustrating. I've been in the city for 9 years and have wanted to get out but am so afraid.

Re: So confused
To confuse matters more, I got another call today, for an interview for a tenure track position in a public school

Re: So confused
I think I would sign it at least it is a position and you are happy there.
I would read the contract to see if it says anything about breaking it and continue to interview.

Re: So confused
1. great neck had a probationary position listed in the nyt last week
2. ITA - read the contract and sign if there is no clause. If there is a clause, what is the worst that can happen? My sister signed a contract with one district, but then found a different job which had her teaching her specialty and she told them she signed a contract. The district took care of it (apparently this can happen often)
