Help for a dog

People who live near me are constantly letting their little dog roam the streets in the mornings to go to the bathroom. We live extremely close to one of the biggest roads on Long Island, and this little guy is running all over the streets.

It happened again this morning...DH has chased after it, and both he and the dog are quite fast...so DH is generally able to see the dog back to his house. I'm super slow and I was alone today...so I had to hurry back to my house and get my car to go after it...thankfully, I saw the dog go into his owner's house...but God only knows what could've happened during the time frame when no eyes were on the animal.

I'm getting really worried about this little guy (or girl)...plus the dog is using other neighbor's lawns for a bathroom...so I'm afraid that will only create bigger problems in the long run.

Is there anyone I can call to get help? I don't want the dog to be sent to a kill shelter... I'd rather them bring the dog to me and I'll find it alone.

Sorry I'm rambling...I get so upset when I see things like this...there's so many school buses, cars, etc. on our street in the morning...I am so worried for the lil guy. Chat Icon

Re: Help for a dog

you can call the town and they will send a letter saying the dog needs to be leashed when outside.
thats the first thing that comes to mind

Re: Help for a dog

Did you try talking to the owner? Just in like a "i'm concerned for your dog" kind of conversation?

I talked to one of my neighbors last week about this, she has a rather aggressive dog, mix of some kind of lab and something else. They NEVER have her on a leash and the kids just open the front door and let her run around the neighborhood. Last month she (the dog) got into it with my 3 at my gated fence and she scraped Logan's nose - he was bloody when he came in the house and now has permanent scars on his nose. I was really angry b/c her (the owner) was standing there laughing and saying "sorry they are just playing". I didn't say anything b/c I didn't want to have a huge fight.

I saw her last week and put a spin on it like "for your own dog's safety" kind of thing - mentioning other dogs might get into a fight or get loose and she (the dog) could get hurt or get hit by a car.

She put up a 3' fence over the weekend. I don't think it's going to stop her kids from letting the dog out the front door, but we'll see.

Omg! I'm sorry that happened!

I've thought about going and talking to them...though I'm a little afraid because I've heard other neighbors saying that shady things go on there. I could probably put a the same spin on it, and walk from a different direction so they don't know which house I'm in.

Thanks for the suggestion!
