I have heard mixed reviews... again, like anything else - it depends on the teacher most of the time... not the school.

How could you describe the general population (Preschool)? Nivel of functioning, social skills, how impared are their language skills (no verbals at all?), and what kind of diagnosis they take most?.
My son has PDD dx. but he does not have cognitive/behavioral problems. He has language processing and motor planning issues along with poor social skills, but he is verbal, uses simple sentences/phrases but talk.
I am afraid he won't have good language and social models, and what could be worst: he could have Bad language or social models.
Please, describe the population SLCD serve. Thank you in advance.

The children are placed in classes based on age and cognitive development. If he is cognitively average, he will be placed in a class with kids on the same level. Some may have more or less of a speech delay. Some may have behavioral issues (such as ADHD), fine motor delays, PDD, etc.
These classes are set up to pair kids with good language models and to stimulate their social skills. Most kids make dramatic improvements in these setting because they work on their IEP's all day long plus they are getting push in and pull out services.

Thank you. Yes, I've heard they group the children based on their skill and challeges but It may happen after preschool. The person who was in change of the tour (Mr. C. McK.) said for preschool classrooms they group children based on the year they were born and don't take in consideration the level of fucntioning, that's why I am a little afraid the school may take to many low functioning kids.
What you explain about the therapists and the school in general sound great and make me want to enroll my son there, it's just the preschool time and grouping my main concern.

So they told you they dont group the children by age AND cognitive functioning?
We've visited several school and my son is currently attending ACDS and all schools told me they group kids by both age and cognitive functioning. The lower ratio classes 6:1:2 and 8:1:2 I believe are lower functioning, then it increases to 10:1:2 and than 12:1:2 where for the most part kids are average (maybe slightly below or slightly above) cognitively. My son is in a 12:1:2 languaged based class and they follow a typical pre-school curriculum (circle time, calendars, counting, numbers, letter recognition, etc).
I think you should look into other schools and tour other programs so you have something to compare to. Ask LOTS of questions!
My main concern in putting my DS in a special needs program was also the cognitive part because my DS is ok cogntiviely and I wanted to make sure he was receiving a typical preschool curriculum and learning what he needed before the start of kindergarten. I sat in and viewed the class he would be in myself while they were screening him.

The second year they may group them by functioning level too, but the way they explained this to me sounded like they don't really care about functioning level, at least during preschool years, that's why I would like you describe a little bit more the population: diagnosis (%), functioning level, etc.
They also told me they don't care about diagnosis during the first years (but I've heard they take mainly kids on the spectrum). They said the take children with language problems and social problems but not MR or behavioral kids. I need to know more. I like the school because of the Language based programm, and that' one of the main issues of my son.

There are lots of school with language based programs.
