I think your parent coordinator is 1) very dedicated and 2) very smart. Part of your school's rating comes from the numbers of parents that fill out the survey.

Interesting reply! My colleagues and I are very upset about it because there is a lot WRONG at our school and we are ****** that she is going to sway them to fill out things falsely:)

Re: What Do The NYC Teachers Think Of This?
All of the parents at my school were asked to visit the computer lab during conferences the other night so they could fill out theirs.
Our union rep did not come out and say to lie, but she did say that if you are unsure you should go the more positive route. Bad surveys can be used against your school by the city when things like school closings and layoffs are talked about. Basically , if you think positive changes will be made from a bad survey think again. THEY ARE OUT TO GET US!

Well, then we're ****ed either way... b/c if they don't fill it out at all, the DOE uses that against us too.

My school hosts a series or workshops that help the parents fill them out. It boosts the schools ratings for the more surveys that are filled out.

A missing survey is the same as a bad survey.

My school has parents fill them out at conferences and gives a free raffle ticket for each survey handed in. The raffle was for a chance to win one of two items, huge basket of childrens books and school supplies or a basket of food and kitchen items.

We try and get the parents to fill them out at conferences as well and this year, we raffled off a TV, I believe..also, complete classes get a pizza or ice cream party (I don't remember, but it's some kind of party)

Wow, that's a really good idea. I'm going to mention that to my admin.
We encourage parents to fill them out at PTCs. I always tell them to write nice things about me
We haven't had a Quality Review in three years and if turning in surveys will help us avoid one, then I think involving the parent coordinator is a great idea.
