Re: extreme coupining

i use coupons but im so not organized with them.
there are a lot of websites that match the weekly coupons or online ones with store ones with weekly sales.
i think those people go overboard with it.
what day of the week is that show on i only saw the first one.
heres one for target

I know that if I paid more attention I could save a lot more money than I do, but half the time I forget my coupons or don't cross reference the coupons I do have with what's on sale. I'm proud of myself if I save $2 or $3 dollars. As things get tighter around my house, I'm starting to work at it a little more.

Does anyone know if grocery stores take coupons printed from the computer?

Re: extreme coupining

I save money while couponing but nothing like on tv. I belong to a number of blogs that tell you about coupons online and also matches coupons up with sales. You can also go to individual products online for coupons.

All stores I go to will take internet coupons. Some stores double coupons like SS and Waldbaums, others will take thier own store coupon and one manufactured coupon per product (target, whole foods).

We are an organic household, so there aren't that many organic coupons, but they are increasing. On a regular basis, I have coupons on hand from Yo Baby, organic salad (earthbound), glen muir (tomato products) and organic valley (dairy). Totally possible does take some time though. I can save around $30 on average.

Re: extreme coupining

You never see NYers on this show. I don't think it could happen in the NY Metro Area.

Re: extreme coupining

I am a HUGE coupon person, I save a decent amount going food shopping. I save like $20-$30 a week, which may not be a lot but it adds up. When I go to BJ's we save no less than $50 in coupons. I use the BJs as well as manufacturer. I go through the Sunday paper every Sunday and clip away.

I also use grocery coupons

I love using coupons. It's like an addictive game to me. I typically save $40-$80 per week. It takes a lot of work and preparation though. I get all my coupons from Sunday's paper and/or thekrazycouponlady.com

The key to saving money, IMO, is to first make a list of what you NEED that week. Then, what I do, is I go through all of my local grocery store circulars to see who has the most of my needed items on sale. That determines which store I'm shopping at. Then I will see what else they are having on sale that week that I typically use but may not necessary need (TP, papertowels, detergent, Peanut butter, whatever) and then combine with coupons. Lots of times, the coupons in Sunday's paper correspond with that week's sales.

Although I haven't seen an entire episode of extreme couponing, I don't think it's possible to do that here. I don't understand how their bills are so low if they are buying meat and produce.

Re: extreme coupining

I use a lot of coupons....and do very well.
On an average I save about 45 - 50% of my bill weekly.
The only place I get my coupons is the Sunday paper.
I have 2 friends that give me theirs when they are done with them.

Besides one woman who bought a chicken, I've never seen them buy meat or produce. (Unless you count hot dogs as a meat.)

I did see someone by like 23 steaks and last week the twins bought 12 porkchops for $1 a piece. But generally what they buy is crap, processed foods and junk food. I could never feed my family some of the foods they buy.

Re: extreme coupining

We use coupons but dont take it to that level (but also dont spend a lot of time doing it).

What we do is:

- any time we go shopping we google for printable coupons first (many stores have them)
- any time we shop online we google for coupon codes AND check for upromise rewards
- if we get a coupon in the mail for a store or item we use we clip it to the fridge or put it in our coupon drawer
- we buy groupons/living social deals often
- we're familiar with when stores have their sales/new deals (flights are usually cheapest on tuesdays, banana has 40% off on wednesdays if you have the coupon, etc)

I realize we could probably save a lot more but especially living in the city there arent always the same sales/coupon potential as other areas and for us we put in little time but get a pretty good return

Re: extreme coupining

I agree with pps. Extreme couponing doesn't happen in NY. You can still save a lot with a little time and some organization. You can get a coupon holder at the dollar store and get started.

I get coupons from my Sunday paper as well as family/friends. I also use the Entertainment Book for when we go out.

I would love to start a coupon club if anyone is interested. It's amazing how many coupons can fit into a business envelope with 1 stamp. The savings really outweigh the cost of the postage. We could figure out who needs what and swap. I definitely don't use all the coupons I get. If anyone is interested, let me know!
