SLR recommendations
So our Sony point and shoot died at DD's birthday party. So since we need a new camera and we both have Iphones, we decided to get an SLR. Any recommendations? It would mostly be used to take pictures of DD and of DH's work (furniture maker)

I have the Nikon D90 and I love it. I heard that the new Nikon d3100 is great for beginners.

The Sony Alpha series is great! I have the a330. I use it all the time, I love it!

If you're looking for bargains, try B&H's used department. We got my niece a great one.
I have the Nikon D90. The option to videotape is a nice perk to have when you have plays/concerts/etc.

I have a Canon Rebel T1i that I like a lot. My BIL has a Nikon something, (a newer model) and when I compare our pics, I just find mine to produce a better quality photo.
