Another break through :)
Bath time has been a NIGHTMARE since DS is 14 months. Yes, 2.5 YEARS of screaming and whining. To the point that I just could not do it everyday. Yet he loved the pool.
Well, another break through this week after finally eating table food for the past 2 weeks.
For the past 3 days we have taken a bath EVERYDAY.
And for the past 2 days, I have even been able to make sit in the water AND use the shower head to rinse him.
YAY for my little man and overcoming his sensory issues, one at a time!

Re: Another break through :)
What I did: PATIENCE for 2.5 yo. Hoping and praying that he would be OK with it. It did not even matter that he liked the pool. I still had problem with the bath. But he has gone underwater now in the pool, so MAYBE this is it. I also always make it sound like it SO MUCH FUN to take a bath.
Or he just outgrew it. He has done that in the past. Hated the sand, but one day figure out he HAD TO walk on sand to go to the ocean. Just like that.. no more issues!
I don't do gfdf diet.
For food: He ate Gerber graduate toddler/preschooler. yogurt, applesauce, cheerios, lately he accepted fruit loops and pretzels.
Would refuse everything else. Put food to lips, never tried it and turned head in disguss.
Now he has eaten in the past 2 weeks: Chicken Meatballs green beens (not his favorite) pizza sweet potato pie fried (but does not like them though) Fresh turkey Apple pie Jello chocolate mousse Jello caramel mousse
He will try EVERYTHING. May not like it but he will eat it. No longer refusing to taste it.
How is teacher did it: 1 micro piece of food 1 sip of juice repeat.
Now, potty training. Potty trained for peepee in school. WILL NOT be potty trained at home. So... that's our next goal!

Wow that's HUGE food progress! Keep up the good work Mama! I'm waiting to hear back from a swim school, hope it helps with J's water in the face issue.

Water in the face was our main problem.
People would ask why the pool and not the bath. I told them the water drops on his face was a bad sensory input for him. The pool is essentially still water. Unless someone jumps next to you, you don't get splashed in the face like with a shower head or water on your face whe rinsing your head. I could only use a rinse cup. No shower head. Still he push my hand down so it would not touch him passed this chest. Nothing higher. He did not like being splash in the face.
The swimming has def. helped. And he loves the water. So I guess finally he stopped thinking I was trying to torture him and decided that he could have just as much fun in the water at home. I am SUPER cautious though. I make sure that the water does not come on his face. I don't want to "ruin" it and go back to square one. Always a possibility with a SN child.

Re: Another break through :)
This is fantastic!!! I have a child who is the reverse--likes the bath but is afraid of the pool. It's easier to ease your way into the pool or skip it altogether if he's having too hard of a time with it, so baths must have been really hard for you.
I'm going to try the eating tip you mentioned with DS--can't hurt.
Congratuations on your son's progress!!!

Re: Another break through :)
Awesome!!
My DS was always OK with baths, but didn't like water poured over his head, so it would take forever to get the shampoo out of his hair. Shortly after he started swimming lessons, he let me pour water over his head. He also started blowing bubbles in the pool and now can blow bubbles with the bubble wand.
It's amazing how one activity really can spill over improving their skills in another if you find the right thing.
You are also giving me encouragement with the eating!
