Just curious: For those of you who are just getting started/developing an interest in photography, do you think you would have an interest if it wasn't digital?

Re: Photographers
i was always interested in it... but i never really put too much thought into it (or any other career for that matter)... it wasnt until i was unemployed that i decided that would be a good time to become more interested in it

I will admit that I appreciate it MUCH more since I've gone digital.

Re: Photographers
I would have been too overwhelmed by a non digital. I saw DSRL pics on the parenting boards. And realized I would never miss another smile again.
THEN, I got into learning more. I rarely shoot in auto anymore.
I think I would have thought a non digital was too intimating. You really have to know your stuff.

And then having to wait to print the pictures only to see how crappy they came out! I love seeing my mistakes right away and understanding how to fix them.

This is why I posed this question. Nassau just changed it's curriculum for a photography degree. Now you take a digital class, then you take everything else. I think that's brilliant. You learn the basics and then test your knowledge with film. I wish that had been the case when I was in school, I don't want to think about how much money I wasted on paper and film

Definitely. I don't think I would've bothered with film.

Printing on film had it's benefit. You had to make sure you took the "best" pics because you could not just waste a bunch of rolls.

Re: Photographers
I have been interested in photography since before digital was around.
I do feel I would have gotten better at it faster, if I had a DSLR instead of a film one. I was never good at writing down what settings I tried, so I could learn from & critique my work. I hate point & shoot digitals though. I am thinking of replacing my old Canon Rebel with a digital one when I can afford it.

Re: Photographers
I started out manual, developed my own pictures in a darkroom and all. I LOVED it. I miss it, I wish I had one in my home. I do love the ease of digital, and the online editing I can do with it.

Re: Photographers
I've always been interested. I've had an SLR since high school and was always trying to come up with different angles to get the better photos.
I returned every digital camera I received as a present because I was waiting for them to come out with a digital SLR.

Re: Photographers
I was always interested and took a few classes in college, but it was just way too expensive for me to keep at it.

Re: Photographers
I would still be interested in it. 90% of the photos I take I keep - its not about getting lucky, its about getting it right the first time.
However, I would not have the time for developing in my own darkroom and all that. And I would hate to have someone do it for me. So I might not do it as my career.
I use photoshop now, but do not do much editing. A little sharpening, airbrushing if necessary and sometimes actions/effect. I strive to get the exposure/color/etc. correct on camera to save PP time.
