consuming too much sugar?
i track my meals on myfitnesspal.com. it says that i should only have 24 grams of sugar a day. but i always go over bc of my yogurt, and fruit. is this ok because it's fruit? 24 seems so low.

My guess is that your caloric intake is very low. When you are tracking macronutrients sugar is sugar no matter the source. Yogurt is very high in carbohydrate maybe try to eat a smaller portion if you are going to pair it with fruit. Personally I feel the suggested values for caloric intake are too low on myfitnesspal.com anything under 1500 calories is putting you at risk to slow your metabolism.

Re: consuming too much sugar?
Can I ask how tall you are and how much you weigh? This is definitely all dependent upon height/weight...and even sugar from fruit (though better than cookies obv) still adds up sadly!

WHAT?! 1200 calories seems WAY LOW! And this is coming from someone who eats a very low calorie diet and is trying to work on improving that..I would recheck those numbers elsewhere to behonest with you!

Re: consuming too much sugar?
looks like a lot of fruit and not a lot of protein...laughing cow cheese is not enough protein in my opinion for a lunch. THe breakfast looks good, though I am always skeptical of granola. Id stick with the yogurt and berries or maybe have oatmeal instead of the granola. I would add some protien to your lunch instead of just cheese and definitely the protein at dinner. I might limit some of the fruit to be honest

I totally agree you need more protein. You should consider raising your caloric intake to 1500 calories a day. 1200 calories is very low. Eating an additional 300 calories a day may decrease your weekly losses but it will help to keep your metabolic rate up. You should try to have protein and carbohydrates at each meal. Your breakfast can use protein like Lauren suggested. Yogurt, granola and fruit are all high in carbohydrates. Granola may taste great but often it is high in calories. What about making eggs or egg whites a few times a week?

Re: consuming too much sugar?
i really appreciate the feedback from the both of you. i find this all a little overwhelming.
i do have eggs and toast on saturday and sunday for breakfast. also, my yogurt has 16g of protein. isnt that enough for that meal? i also only use 1/4 cup of the pumpkin flax granola.
i do hear you about the calories being to low.
What kind of protein could i add to my lunch? turkey meat?
thanks for your advice

Re: consuming too much sugar?
my mil was using myfitnesspal also. A few weeks in she stopped losing weight. I was guessing that her body went into starvation mode becuase they had her getting 1200 calories and she was working out everyday. She switched to weight watchers and has started losing again.

Re: consuming too much sugar?
I stopped calculating the sugar because the majority of my sugar is from fruits and I focus on my sodium intake what I feel is that you have to watch your confined sugars if its natural its ok as long as you eat it in portions

Re: consuming too much sugar?
1200 seems low but to address your main question: I don't think you are consuming too much sugar and you certainly don't need to cut down on the fruit. Yes, it is sugar, but it's natural sugar and fruit has so many benefits that it outweighs the sugar content. It also looks like you eat so much sugar because you eat so little. if you ate a ton of bad food and more of it, you'd probably see the sugar go down, but obviously you wouldn't be eating any healthier. On the calorie thing everyone is talking about, I'd bump it up to 1400 a day, still sticking with healthy foods and then higher than that for a day or two.

Re: consuming too much sugar?
thanks for all the input ladies. i am going to bump it up to 1400 during the week and have 2-3 higher days. and am going to add in nuts to my snacks, although i do always have more than the required grams of protein for my calorie intake.
