Morning Gymers/Runners

I normally work out around 7pm but on nights that I'm busy, I try to do a morning workout. I'm so confused on how to eat with morning workouts, do you eat before or after or both? I'm afraid I'm going to pass out or not have enough energy if I have nothing but then I get hungry again afterwards anyway. What do you do?

I go very early 2 days a week I take a 5:30 am spin class and one day I start at 6am and run. There is no way I can eat that early. I have zero appetite. I just have my FRS drink! On Saturday am I run at 7:30 am ususally and I have either a greek yogurt or a bowl of multi cheerios!

I'm at the gym at 6am. I never eat before because I get cramps during my run if I do. Basically I just have coffee and go. I eat right after because of the spike in your metabloism following a workout helps you to burn more calories efficiently. Also I feel that I get a better run if my stomach is not heavy with food. I run at 6:30 three days a week and go to the gym at 5:45 two days a week---I eat nothing before.

Re: Morning Gymers/Runners

It can depend on many factors.

For me- my personal preference is to eat before and then a snack after. I need to eat as soon as I wake up. I couldn't do a workout without eating a meal (egg whites and whole wheat toast). Then after my workout I usually have a protein shake and/or fruit.

I've read if you're working out for longer than an hour you should eat something beforehand.

If I run in the am I eat a half a banana before I go - unless I am doing a longer (8+ mile) run, then I eat toast with PB and banana.

I go out around 6/615AM and have started grabbing a half of a banana as well.
It definitley helps.

I'll have a "real" breakfast around 8/830.

I work out every morning and I always just take a few sips of gatorade and then run or workout. I always eat about a half hour afterwards. If I'm doing a long run then I'll try to eat something before.

I don't eat anything before, recently i've been having a serving of a protein shake after my workout and then breakfast after I get ready for work.

I run at 5:30am and before I go, I usually have half a power bar (the whole bar is way too much for me). If it's a long run, I'll take an energy gel at some point during the run. Then I just eat breakfast when I get to work during the week, or after I shower on the weekend.

last summer I found the G2 prime packs...I keep them in the freezer and sip on them for the first mile or so. It's great for the warmer weather and to get something in me.

If it's a long run, I'll have some kind of sports beans/raisins/etc with me.

Re: Morning Gymers/Runners

either pre-make a protein shake or green smoothie to sip in the morning as you get ready for the gym or grab a handful of almonds. then post-gym eat a small breakfast. that usually works for me! but, if i'm going to gym early for something not too cardio intense, like pilates or yoga, then i usually skip out on the pre-workout food.

Re: Morning Gymers/Runners

Just part of my large coffee before. Then I finish it after, and eat 2 Wasa crackers with low fat peanut butter and a banana.
