My DH has this. He will eat a banana or eat applesauce before bed when he thinks he might have an issue at night and it usually helps it. He will also eat these when he is having an issue and it gives him faster relief then the meds do.

There are other meds out there to help.

Keeping your head elevated at night helps. Avoid all acidic foods, caffeine, milk, alcohol..

Try to figure out what is causing this. I had this, and it was from strong acidic foods- if I am going to have these foods, I take a pepcid chewable or some mylanta before bed. The pepcid I take right away. EX-Also, if it is from lemonade I will water it down before I drink it. I also suggest not laying down right away after eating and make sure your head is raised on a few pillows when you sleep. ( My trigger foods were chocolate, tomato sauce, and lots of caffeine.) Feel better!Chat Icon

I suffered for two years with this. Here is how i survived and it totally healed. Try to take the omprezole (and the like as little as possible) It stops the acid in your stomach which makes u feel better but now it is harder to digest your food) carry mylanta in your purse and chug it when needed. (4times a day i think) read label. pepto bismol helped me so much too. now re food. only drink water and chamomil t. i lived on pasta w olive oil & grated cheese, avocados, mashed potatoes and alot of coconut water. (zico) and rolls. It was so tough but i couldnt function with all the pain so i had to limit eating to a couple foods. Take acidophilus too. it worked!!! nothing acidic, no vitamins, advil etc. only tylenol to help with stomach pain. Feel better but if u really baby your stomach it will heal

I have found that when I cut out ALL caffeine it helped a lot...I had reflux so bad, I ended up in the ER 2 times thinking I was having a heart attack.. I was on Nexium which helped but my insurance company stopped paying for it. So I was switched to Aciphex. Didn't do much. I started to take Prevacid everyday and it helped a lot. Then I got samples of Zegerid and it almost eliminated it all together. Now I take Prevacid as needed and Maalox every other day. If I eat or drink something I know is going to cause me grief, then I will take a Zegerid..

My trigger foods/drinks are any type of dairy, tomato sauce, chocolate, soda, caffeine, greasy foods. I eat a lot of carbs!

The problem is I can't figure out what is triggering it..I Did notice I had peanut butter the past 2 times it happened..Then I got to thinking maybe it is an allergic reaction to peanut butter, that I never had in the past..It is driving me crazy as well as my wife..

Re: Help with G.E.R.D?

I get it sometimes when I drink milk, eat nuts, alcohol and tomato sauce.

When I was really bad I took protonix. Worked great.
