Game of Thrones Book Question

For those who have read at least the first 2 books in the series and who are watching season 1 -

I started reading the first book as I'm watching season 1. I hate doing this - I never read a book after I see the movie/series because I hate knowing what is going to come when I read - I'm still trying to figure out why I decided to change my mind this time Chat Icon. Anyway, I feel like the series is keeping very close to the book.

My question is: if I stop reading the book and just finish up watching season 1, will I be missing much if I then pick up book 2 next week to start to read before season 2 starts??

Re: Game of Thrones Book Question

Haven't read the second book, but from what I've heard (and what my DH said) season 1 should end exactly at at the end of book 1.

Edited for typos.

ETA: Now, that I've seen the finale, they apparently took one or two scenes from book two, but I'm glad they did. I feel like those scenes should've been included in book one anyway.
