2 very similar positions at the same company--send 1 application for both, or 2?

2 very similar positions at the same company--send 1 application for both, or 2?
I checked and the email address to send the application is the same for both. I would use basically the same cover letter. So should I send one for both positions, or separate ones? Does it matter?
